At first sip, it doesn’t really have much flavor at all. I think there’s a small earthy undertone to it, but it is mostly alcohol-like in scent. It doesn’t really smell like sweet apples, but more like a beer. With that out of the way, I think I’ll open this now and see what it’s like! Pregnant women are advised against consuming alcohol. People under the age of 21 cannot consume alcohol legally.
I suppose it does mimic the French style then.ĭespite that, the government warning is still in effect. By the way, the alcohol by volume is 4.5%. It is like a juice drink with added alcohol. Honestly, after reading all that, this is closer to like a soda than what I expected. So, what color was this before they added color? Clear? Hard cider (water, apple juice concentrate, dextrose), water, sucrose, natural flavor, malic acid, sodium citrate, natural colors, citric acid. So, they have 16g of sugar from I guess the fruit and then they add 16g more of regular sugar. Well, that’s good for people who need to know that.ġ80 calories. It actually has ingredients on the back! Oh! Nutrition facts too! Good on ya, Stella Artois. Well, I guess I’ll take a look at the back. It is mostly white with “Cidre” and “Stella Artois” in gold text. Close to the very top of the bottle is another sticker that just says “Cidre” on it. It’s pretty neat and reminds me of the New Belgian Fat Tire bottle. That design goes around the bottle as well, creating little grooves. below the ring is the little olive leaf design you see on the Stella Artois logo. There’s a pretty cool ring around the mid to top part of the bottle with “Stella Artois” embroidered on it. What the bottle’s label lacks in style, it sort of makes up with bottle design. Oh yeah, it is a Belgian style of cider which I suppose borrows from the French anyway. Maybe one of the other bottles will be served over ice. Why is that? I’m going to drink this straight out of the bottle. It says it is best served over a lot of ice. I am not huge on apricots, but a peach flavor might be nice. 70%? What about the other 30%? So, do they go to some orchard where a bunch of guys are picking apples that they can reach and then when they give up, they get a crane or something to get the apples all the way at the top? Anyway, it says these are red apples but there’s also other fruity flavoring such as apricots and peaches. I have gone to their website and it says it is at least 70% hand picked apples. I wonder what type of apples Stella Artois uses then. I’d love to taste more apple and less gasoline. It basically says that French “cidre” uses sweeter apples and generally has a lower alcohol content so the apples can be tasted better.
I’m going to assume this is the French style they are going for here because of how it is spelled. So, what makes an apple cider more “European?” Well, according to Wikipedia, there’s several “European” ciders out there. Apple cider has proven to really be my choice of adult beverage.
Heck, their whole background story is how they created a beer for the Christmas star, hence the name. I guess I’ll touch upon the obvious which is that Stella Artois made a cider. At least 60% of this label is white space. I wonder why they wouldn’t just put it somewhere on the label? There’s a lot of wasted space by printing “Cidre” so big. It is, however, on the carrier thing that holds the rest of this six pack. Apparently this is a newer label as I took a look at the Stella Artois Cidre and it used to put more of an emphasis on the Stella Artois logo rather than the “Cidre.” On the old bottles it said “Made with hand picked apples.” It isn’t as obvious anymore on this new bottle. Right off the bat, the name of this beverage is “Cidre” so it is sort of spelled in a French sort of way. No, instead the label says “European style cider.” So, do they have a specific flavor of cider in Europe? It is kind of too late for me to ask my European friends so I guess I’ll have to do the research myself. I mean, I’d assume it is, but it doesn’t specifically say that this is straight up apple cider. Well, we’re covering another Stella Artois product, but this time it is a cider! Is it an apple cider? I’m not really sure.
